Street Parking

Parking is not allowed on City streets between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. This is so the street sweeper is able to clean the streets.

Snow and Ice Removal

If snow has fallen or accumulated during the nighttime, snow must be removed by 12 o’clock noon; snow falling or drifting during the day must be removed before 12:00pm the following day. When ice forms on any sidewalk, it must immediately be removed. If removal is impracticable, sand or salt must be spread on the ice in such a manner and in such quantity as to prevent the sidewalk from being slippery and dangerous to pedestrians and the ice must be removed as soon as is practicable. If any occupant or owner fails to clear ice or snow from the sidewalk, he is guilty of a violation of the City Code and, in addition, the Superintendent may cause such ice or snow to be cleared with the expense of removal falling on the occupant or owner of the property and may be billed as a single lot assessment.

Residential Trash Pickup

Residents of the City of Adrian are entitled to one (1) curbside collection weekly. All normal household discards should be put into plastic bags, boxes, or securely bundled and disposable in their entirety. Carpeting must be rolled or folded and tied in a bundle of a small enough size for one person to handle easily. Any large, bulky items such as washers, dryers, water heaters, refrigerators and freezers will be picked up curbside on the normal trash collection day for a $5.00 Removal fee. The property owner must contact the City’s waste hauling contractor, Stevens Disposal directly at 1-800-779-0344, between 8:00am-5:00pm prior to trash day to make arrangements for pickup and to pay the Removal fee.

Additionally, refrigerators and freezers and other appliances containing Freon or equivalent refrigerants must have the refrigerant removed prior to placing the object to the curb. The removal must be done by a certified technician who will place a tag or sticker onto the appliance to certify the refrigerant has been properly removed. Any and all household refuse can be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00pm the day before the pickup and no later than 7:00am the day of the pickup.

Disposal of Leaves

During the fall of each year, the City Administrator will designate a period to be known as the "leaf collection season," during which a leaf collection service will be provided in specified areas of the City. During this time, residents may place their leaves on their curb at any time during this season for collection. All leaves must be placed in clear or translucent plastic bags. During the leaf collection season leaves not placed on the curb in approved bags will not be picked up free of charge by the City.

In the event any residents place leaves on the curb in other than clear or translucent plastic bags or in any other non-approved manner and City personnel picks up or collects said leaves, a fee equal to the cost of all labor, materials, equipment and a reasonable administrative cost will be charged to the owner or occupant of the property. This debt may be collected in a single lot assessment. The gross weight of any leaves in approved bags shall not exceed 50 pounds.

When a resident feels that the requirements to place leaves in bags to be too difficult, the resident may contact the Superintendent of Public Works to obtain a cost estimate to remove leaves from his or her property in a different manner. The City is not required to contract with such resident for this purpose, but may do so if sufficient personnel and equipment is available for such purposes as determined by the Superintendent. This option shall only be available to each resident once per each leaf collection season.

Disposal of Yard Clippings

During the spring of each year, the City Administrator will designate a period to be known as the "yard clipping season" during which a yard clipping drop off service will be provided in the City. During this period, residents eligible for the City residential refuse collection service may bring their yard clippings to a drop off site as designated by the City. Yard clippings may be brought to the drop off center in any appropriate container. The container will remain the property of the resident. During this season, it is unlawful to place any yard clippings on the curb for regular residential pickup.
