* YARD WASTE PICKUP UPDATE:
The curbside Spring Yard Waste pickup begins Monday, April 2nd and runs through Friday, April, 27th, 2012. 

 *COMPOST SITE UPDATE:
The Compost site will be re-opening for the season on May 5th, Saturdays only, from 8:00am-2:00pm and closes November 17th for the season.

  TRASH Guidelines

YARD WASTE
The next scheduled Yard Waste Collection begins on Monday, April 2nd through Friday, April 27th, 2012.
During each Yard Waste Collection season, residents are allowed to place their yard waste  (leaves, grass clippings, garden debris, shrubbery and twigs less than 1 inch diameter) at the curb, on any day of the week. Yard waste is to be placed  in clear or translucent plastic bags. Each bag may not weigh more than 50 pounds and must be located in a separate pile from the trash. Brown Kraft bags are not accepted and will not be picked up. 

From May 5th thru November 17th, 2012, residents may take their grass, leaves, garden waste, as well as brush and branches, to the City's Compost Site, which is located on Oakwood Avenue. When the Compost Site opens in the spring, the hours of operation are 8:00am-2:00pm every Saturday. Residents must obtain a Compost Site sticker before using the site.

Trash Pickup Information

  • The City of Adrian trash contractor is  Stevens Disposal.
  • Contact Stevens Disposal at1-800-779-0344 (Mon-Fri 8:00 am-5:00 pm).
  • Tuesday is the city-wide Trash pickup day, except for noted holidays which will move trash pickup to Wednesdays. 
  • Trash must be at the curb by 7:00am.
  • No trash cans, trash totes, cardboard boxes, baskets of any kind are allowed to contain trash for pickup.
  • Trash is limited to 6 bags per household and all trash must be bagged. Each bag cannot weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • If you have more than 6 bags of trash, residents must call Stevens Disposal prior to trash pickup day and pay $1.00 for each extra bag.

Special Pickups

Large items (over 50 lbs or not in a bag) can be picked up for a $5.00 fee for each item. Residents must call Stevens Disposal prior to trash pickup day and make arrangements for pickup and to pay the fee.
Large items include:
  • Appliances (freon must be removed and item tagged)
  • Furniture
  • Televisions
  • Computer monitors

Curbside Recycling

Curbside recycling is by subscription only, and is provided by Stevens Disposal. City residents that wish to begin recycling must fill out a recycling contract and prepay at City Hall, on the first floor at the payment window. Recycling is picked up every other Tuesday (depending on whether your address is North or South of Maumee Street), except on noted holidays which will move recycling to Wednesdays.

Recycling Drop Off

The Recycling Drop Off (located on Oakwood Avenue, just past the cemetery) is open every Saturday, from 8:00am-12:00pm. The Recycling Drop Off is open to City of Adrian residents only.

Acceptable recycle items include:
Newspaper, magazines, cereal box and soft drink box type paperboard
Clear, green, and brown glass bottles and jars (remove lids and rings, rinse clean)
Plastics #1 through #7 (remove lids and rings, rinse clean)
Aluminum and steel cans (rinse clean and for safety, please place lid inside can and pinch the end closed)
Brown or white corrugated cardboard (remove all packing materials; tape, staples, and labels can be left on)

Non-Acceptable recycle items include:
Window glass
Styrofoam items such as packaging materials and cups
Paper milk and juice cartons, any waxed cardboard
Propane tanks
Wood
Paint cans

Compost Site 

The City's Compost site (located on Oakwood Avenue, just past the cemetery) is now closed for the winter. It will re-open May 5th through November 17, 2012, on Saturdays only from 8:00am-2:00pm.

Leaves and grass SHALL be de-bagged by the residents prior to leaving the compost site. Residents are welcome to bring the material loose and dump it on the designated pile. Residents MAY NO LONGER DROP OFF BAGS. Loose brush and branches may also be dropped off at the compost site.
  
The City of Adrian is not responsible for any damages caused by chemicals used to treat brush, grass, weeds, and other yard materials used to create mulch. Use of city generated mulch is at the users own risk and the user assumes all responsibility.

The Parks & Forestry department provides curbside pick up of bundled brush April through November. Residents may bundle brush in 3 foot lengths and leave it on the curb the first week of every month. Bundles cannot exceed 50 pounds. Further questions regarding Brush pick up can be directed to the Parks department at 517-264-4872.

 Residents interested in using the Compost Site must obtain a window sticker from the City Clerk's office on the 2nd floor of City Hall,
Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm. Residents will receive only one sticker per address.  Random checks for proof of residency or city property ownership will be conducted at the site.
